"The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi II" (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱II) is an episode in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. It is the third episode aired in the series. It is the second episode in the series timeline. The episode's original airdate is April 16, 2006.

Haruhi commandeers a computer from the Computer Society, much to the dismay of Kyon, the Computer Society and Mikuru. Yuki begins explaining who she is and why she is on Earth to Kyon

[edit] Differences in the novel
The episode is based on the second and the thrid chapter in the novel The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. These comparisons are made using the Strato-translation, which may not be 100% accurate.

Chapter 2
- The Literature Club room's furniture is described differently.
- The conversation between Kyon and Mikuru after they get a brand new computer is done just after Mikuru joins the club, except with some minor differences.
- Kyon knows what Haruhi is going to do with the president.
- There are four students in the Computer Research Society room, not five.
- Kyon takes the pictures when the president "assaults" Mikuru, not Haruhi.
- Haruhi does not kick down the president on top of Mikuru.
- The Computer Research Society carries the computer to the Literature club room.
- Kyon meets the mysterious transfer student before he visits Yuki at home.
Chapter 3
- The bookmark has a flower motif on it, which is not visible in the anime.
- Kyon walks, instead of riding, his bicycle into the park where he meets Yuki.
- Yuki had waited several days for Kyon to come to the park.
- Yuki never calls herself an alien.

- This is episode 2, chronologically.
- Kyon refers to a Sisyphean task at the opening.
- The black door on the left of the room is a reference to the unanimated "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" episode.
- At the end of the preview for Episode 4, Kyon asks, "Father, will I do it?" This is a parody of the line "Father, I will do it!" from a baseball manga Kyojin no Hoshi.
- Nagato is reading the Japanese translation of The Code Book: The Evolution of Secrecy from Mary, Queen of Scots to Quantum Cryptography by Simon Singh, published by Anchor. The Japanese translation was published by Shinchōsha (ISBN 4-10-539302-2).
- The book that Nagato lends Kyon is Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It's the first book of the Hyperion Cantos tetrology (which continues with The Fall of Hyperion which she was reading in the previous episode).
- The camera that Haruhi using for menacing Computer Society's President is FujiFilm DATE1000. It's a one-time-use camera.
- In the anime episode, Haruhi's response to the Computer Society members' being witnesses to the president's extortion is censored. In the light novel, it is revealed that Haruhi threatened to claim that the Computer Society members attempted to gang rape Mikuru.
Current state of the "SOS Brigade" Dan hompage" No links, except for the fan club and etc..; The Profiles of all of the characters have been removed, the main signia is SOS, and only the agenda link is still there. -This is most likely due to season 2 airing very recently. In otherwords certain occurences have yet to taken place in the most recently aired episode of the anime.
