[edit] Trivia
|
- This is episode 14, chronologically.
- This episode is the original story that was written for the anime series by Nagaru Tanigawa himself.
- The title "Someday in the Rain" is the opposite phrase of "On one sunshiny day" (アル晴レタ日ノ事, Aru hareta hi no koto?) which is a line from the lyrics of the ending theme Sunny Sunny Fun (ハレ晴レユカイ, Hare Hare Yukai?).
- Haruhi's cellphone is Sony Ericsson premini–II Silver with NekoMan cell phone strap.
- The background voices during the "mystery show" scene is a parody of Detective Conan.
- The collectible card game that Kyon and Itsuki play in this episode is Dragon All Stars (ドラゴン☆オールスターズ).
- At 10:30, when forcing Mikuru out of the frog costume, Haruhi quotes a verse from the ending theme Hare Hare Yukai ("Boooon! WAPU de RUPU na kono omoi wa", dubbed "Booon! Those looping feelings...")."Looping" is refered to unanimated story "endless eight" which she acquired the frog costume and it is about "looping" of time.
- At 12:53, the overheard line is from Air by Kunisaki Yukito. This is likely a nod to the fact that Daisuke Ono, who played Itsuki, was the voice of Yukito in that production.
- From 13:02 to 13:15, the phrases overheard are puns on various Ace Magazine names.
- From 13:16 to 13:23, the lines being spoken are taken from the drama Trick[1].
- A female member of the comedy group named Ice Candies that is performing during Nagato's reading is called Yuki. She is Matsuoka Yuki who is voicing Tsuruya.
- Kyon complains about the lack of appreciation from Haruhi. Actually she mumbled her thanks in the preview for this episode at the end of episode 8 Remote Island Syndrome (Part II).
- The last shot of Haruhi, before the credit titles, is the same as the cover from the 6th novel in the Suzumiya Haruhi series, The Agitation of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの動揺, Suzumiya Haruhi no dōyō?), but in mirror. [2] The novel in the series is a collection of short stories.
- This is the only episode that Nagato and her seiyuu Minori Chihara aren't credited in the ending credits. Despite her screen time, Nagato doesn't have any lines at all.
- In the previous episode, it is revealed to the audience in the preview that this would be was episode fourteen in the actual running order of the show. As the 'last episode' of the series, it appears to have been made specifically long winded and uneventful, to the point where it can be considered boring to watch (though not non-entertaining). The episode contains repetitive scenes, such as Haruhi constantly changing Mikuru into different cosplay costumes, and long running, completely meaningless scenes, mainly depicting the character Nagato Yuki reading a book while a radio show played in the background for more than several minutes at a time. The intentions of this appear to be to provide a contrast from the usual dramatic ending that an anime would have or the purpose may be to encourage those to watch episodes by air-date rather then chronologically.
- The main theme of this episode is "The SOS Brigade without Kyon". Though the series has always been done from Kyon's perspective, this episode is an exception and includes many scenes without Kyon present, during which fixed cameras are used without anyone providing narration.
- The sub theme is "Nagato's emotional cues". Nagato's actions are always subtle, and this episode shows the slight variance in her responses to different people. For example, in 16:00, Nagato indicated to Tsuruya where Mikuru was, but in 17:45, Nagato did not tell Kyon where Haruhi was.
- Kyon awakens with two cardigans placed on his back. One of them is definitely Haruhi's. The other either belongs to Nagato or Asahina. Given that all of other high school women that appear in the episode have given him a piece of clothing to wear, it is probably Nagato who first put her cardigan on Kyon after he fell asleep.
- When Kyon awakens, he asks Haruhi if she drew anything on his face. This is a reference to the fourth light novel, when Haruhi asks Kyon the same question when she wakes up after taking care of Kyon in the hospital, near the end of The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is soon to be adapted as a movie.
- In 15:30, Kyon mumbles "the weather forecast said that there was a ten percent chance of rain", but it rains regardless. Rain might be Haruhi's wish to walk with Kyon under one umbrella.
