Comparison between Suzumiya Haruhi and Linda, Linda, Linda
Comparison between Suzumiya Haruhi and Linda, Linda, Linda
  • This episode is the only episode that's chronologically in place in the series.
  • The title of this episode may be a tribute to the Squaresoft game Live A Live.
    • It is claimed that the Intrumental Band was playing a song from Live a Live
      • The title may also be a tribute to the Genesis Climber Mospeada special set after the series, called "Love, Live, Alive!". The special mainly centers on a concert performed by one of the main characters, Yellow Belmont.
  • A guy from the Computer Society is in the audience when showing "Mikuru Asahina's Adventure, Episode 00".
  • In the previous episode, the Computer Research President asks Kyon if he had seen the Day of Sagittarius III display they had at the Culture Festival. At 2:28, Kyon walks past the booth.
  • Two Japanese TV personalities show up at 2:29, One is Hard Gay the other is Akihiro Miwa.
  • The Third Reich Coffee House (純喫茶 第三帝国, Junkissa Daisanteikoku?) nameboard seen in corridor is a reference to Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer.
  • The play Koizumi is acting in is Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. The parallels between the two series are subtle, but deep. For example, the main characters of both series are frequently bewildered by the events transpiring around them. Also, the scene Koizumi acts out (the debate on probability) casts a hint to the nature of the world of Suzumiya Haruhi - specifically, there is a higher power acting on the world and affecting the outcome of chance.
  • The conductor of wind orchestra is a look-alike for Joe Hisaishi.
  • The band that plays before ENOZ is a cover band of DMC from "First-ever Deathmetal Comedy Manga" Detroit Metal City by Kiminori Wakasugi. (Manga review; in Japanese)
  • The band name ENOZ is a homage to the once-popular all-female band ZONE, which is ENOZ in reverse. ZONE also consisted of two guitarists, one bass & one drummer. Also, it mirrors the fact that ZONE disbanded after a majority of their members were about to graduate from High School. The original band members have names that are similar to their real life counterparts; Takako, Mai, Miyuki and Mizuki for the ENOZ, Takayo, Maiko, Miyu and Mizuho for ZONE, and are also playing their counterpart's instrument; Mai(Maiko) - bass, Mizuki(Mizuho) - drums, Miyuki(Miyu) - lead vocal.
  • Kyon's last line in the episode "Aren't you just combining bands and idols?!" is another reference to the band ZONE who are in the genre bandol (band + idol).
  • The ENOZ concert is a reference to the Japanese live-action movie リンダリンダリンダ (Linda Linda Linda, ?) (2005) from director Nobuhiro Yamashita. The movie's plot is very similar to ENOZ's history. At right is a pictorial comparison.
  • The lyrics of the song "God Knows" could be seen as a reference to episode 14, the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya VI.
  • Instruments used by ENOZ
  • Haruhi's Mondial Classic is the guitar which became famous after being featured in J–rock movie Linda, Linda, Linda.
  • In the sixth light novel, from which this episode comes from, the band, nor its members, were named. Additionally, the band had only three members; Haruhi and Yuki replace only one band member that functions as both the lead singer and guitarist.
  • In the background of the happenings of the episode are hints of the events which led up to Haruhi's performance. At 03:30 you can see the tussle between the band members and Student Council plus a blurry bunny girl. At 04:25 the healthy members of the band run past with guitar cases. At 07:02 a bunnygirl and witch run past with guitar cases.
  • When Kyon says to enjoy the festival "normally", this can be seen as a reference to the Hot Springs episode in Full Metal Panic?:Fumoffu.
  • It rains just as Haruhi is about to begin the concert; it is possible this is a manifestation of her unconscious desire for a full house.
  • All of the men waiting in-line for the Soba shop are wearing glasses. Perhaps, they are also the bespectacled men who watched the SOS Brigade's movie to see the main actress, Asahina Mikuru, who is in the Soba shop also.
  • On the ring toss sign it says, "Throw a ring or throw away your life."
  • A shot of the tree where Haruhi and Kyon sit after the concert looks similar to the Tree of Confession in Konami's Tokimeki Memorial series.
  • At 07:44 when Kyon walks past a room with a girl sleep at a desk, this is a reference to the movie Linda, Linda, Linda when the main character Son, a Korean exchange student, falls asleep in her Korean culture-themed booth at the school festival because she's too tired from all the band rehearsals.
  • The music player MD is mentioned. This is reference to the Sony format the Mini Disc Player, which is widely unknown and unused in the States. It featured a 2" wide enclosed rewritable disc capable of playing a multitude of formats. It was considered better than the current MP3 players of the time, but the low cost of flash memory soon drove the MD into extinction.
  • During the beginning of the episode Remote Island I, the camera focuses on a mysterious woman with a large white hat ripping sheets of paper and picking off pedals off a flower. As Haruhi and company gets off the ship, the woman with the white hat and dress appears in front of them, with her head down and the hat covering her face. It is noticeable that her face is never revealed.
  • In Remote Island II, Kyon is bothered that if Haruhi really wished for a REAL killer, because as Kyon and Haruhi were looking for the murderer during the storm scene, Haruhi states that she had seen someone in the cave.
    • Actually it's still popular among people who tape live concerts.

Current state of the "SOS Brigade" Dan hompage" No links, except for the fan club and etc..; The Profiles of all of the characters have been removed, the main signia is SOS, and only the agenda link is still there. -This is most likely due to season 2 airing very recently.
